Debt Recovery

An introduction to doorstep collections

What do doorstep collections mean for you as the owner of a business who must find a way to retrieve the debt owed to you? Sending out the debt collectors is not the first resort. When several payments have been missed, it is more usual to send collection or default notices and to call and speak to the individual who is behind on their payments. In this way it is possible to find a solution that serves both parties.

Getting information and assessing the problem

But what happens when you have exhausted all avenues, and the debt remains unpaid? Action needs to be taken, and you can no longer afford to negotiate and chase down payment. Perhaps you are unable to find any way of contacting the debtor and have no idea of their current circumstances.

Step one is to make sure you have all the available information on your debtor and what exactly is happening that is affecting payment. A debt collection company is hired to investigate the exact situation and to ascertain where the problem lies. They use tracing techniques unavailable to the average business in order to track down the debtor and assess the issues involved.

Detailed records and home visits

It’s possible that the debtor is unable or unwilling to repay any money owed. Using an agent who is trained and specialises in doorstep collection provides the creditors with some distance to a necessary task that is unpleasant and could end in costly legal battles. When debtors do not respond to repeated attempts at engagement, it is best to use a professional company that will keep detailed records of visits and any information retrieved should the creditor be forced to take further legal steps.

Expertise and flexibility

When a company needs to use a doorstep debt recovery service, they must be able to trust that the collections agency verifies all details of the debtors’ assets and property, and that they will provide other financial information to the creditor where it is deemed necessary.

Particularly in the case where a debtor is in arrears with their rent, it is useful to have a field recovery agent with suitable expertise visit the debtor and maintain persistent contact with them until the issue is resolved.

At First Capitol, we aim to provide a doorstep collection service that secures all the money still outstanding, as far as it is possible to do so. We specialise in a variety of credit control services, and our expertise and flexibility in the field of debt collections mean we can offer assistance to both private individuals and companies.
